Week #27

Forty Weeks ~ Sacred Story

Week 27 Prayer Exercises

Encouragements & Wisdom

In addition to this week’s prayer materials, there are new Encouragements and Wisdom for Week 27 (PDF).

Part Two
Building Sacred Story Prayer Practice

1 I will visualize my prayer times this week and resolve to spend no more and no less than 15-minutes in each formal prayer session.

2 For week twenty-seven I am invited to continue developing a life-long process of praying the five meditations of Sacred Story prayer. As St. Ignatius suggested, I will enter my prayer at least once daily.

3 Meditation One, Two, Three, Four and Five: Creation, Presence, Memory, Mercy and Eternity.

I will awaken to the present moment.
I will awaken to my spiritual nature.
I will not make any decisions based on fear.
I will practice Sacramental Reconciliation monthly.

Focus Affirmation for Week Twenty-Seven

I will say this affirmation aloud once daily:

God gives me insights, not because I am better than others,
but because I am loved.

Ongoing Awakening to Sacred Story Prayer

Sacred Story prayer is designed to carry us through our Christian journey to our heavenly home. It is also designed to open us to grace so our story is shaped more and more by Christ’s Sacred Story. Living our story in Christ is a labor of love accomplished as we awaken to the truths of Creation, Presence, Memory, Mercy and Eternity.

Let us resolve this week to continue our journey by praying with Creation, Presence, Memory, Mercy and Eternity. By our openness and God’s grace, our history and the history of the Church and world are changing. Make an act of faith this week that this is indeed true.

We also engage all the other disciplines associated with Sacred Story prayer as part of our daily practice: On Waking, During the Day Consciousness Exercise, Journal, and On Retiring Exercise. Continue to use your personalized prayers of Creation, Presence, Memory, Mercy and Eternity for the 15-minute sessions this week.

Prayer Exercise—Continue praying your 15-minute Creation-Presence-Memory-Mercy-Eternity prayer & complete your own one-sentence version of each meditation of Sacred Story Prayer.

Use the template from Week 26 for this exercise.

Many are the troubles of the just one,
but out of them all the Lord delivers him;
he watches over all his bones;
not one of them shall be broken.
Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.

(Ps 34: 20-21)
