E & W reflections are additional helps for your Sacred Story prayer journey. Reflect on them at week’s beginning or outside of your 15-minute prayer periods.
Journeying with Christ to the roots of my sins and addictions
will help break their grip.
This Affirmation continues the Good News of the Divine Physician’s healing graces in our lives. It can be customary for each of us to avoid a conscious awareness of our own sins and addictions. We fear them, or they embarrass us, or they make us feel powerless or pained or hopeless. Whatever the reasons we might avoid these parts of our lives, we need to allow Christ the Divine Physician to enter them with His light and healing graces.
Ignoring the darkness within does not make it go away: quite the contrary. Avoiding our darkness only gives it more control, eroding our hope and intensifying fear, embarrassment, powerlessness and pain.
If the Original Sin was the act of us turning away from God, the way back to God is to look honestly at our sin, with Christ by our side as Divine Healer and Savior of souls.
Only God, in Christ, can restore what was lost. And so, in Love, Christ enters into the history of the world’s brokenness to undo what was done. We must admit the full truth of what was lost if we are to ever fully turn to the source of our salvation.
Lord Jesus Christ, enter my darkness and powerlessness and help me untangle the sin and addiction in my life. I know with you by my side that I have nothing to fear,
for in your love and mercy I can open to
Creation, Presence, Memory, Mercy and Eternity.
(Psalm 95: 6-7)
